Parish Athletic Recreation Association (PARA)
Mission Statement:
The Mission of P.A.R.A. is to provide young people with safe opportunities for their recreational, physical, moral, intellectual and spiritual development. By teaching the value of teamwork, healthy competition, good sportsmanship and respect for self, other team members, competitors, coaches, referees, parents and fans, Catholic sponsored athletic programs reinforce Christian values and lifestyle essential for the formation of responsible adults. P.A.R.A. promotes these goals in the following ways:- By emphasizing the importance of fellowship, teamwork and physical fitness over winning and competition.
- By reinforcing Christian values both on and off the playing field that recognize the importance of God and Church, the need for community, and the value of service to others.
- By employing athletic directors and coaches who are models of Christian leadership, values and lifestyle.
- By providing a safe environment free from drug and alcohol abuse, and gang pressure for youth to interact with one another and with adult leaders.
- By emphasizing to youth, parents and coaches the value of full participation, fun and fair play.
- By providing equal opportunities for both boys and girls to fully participate in sports programs, and to provide equitable access to facilities.
- By helping young people develop a sense of pride, connection, responsibility and service for the Catholic Church and their sponsoring parish or school.
